AFGHANISTAN ENERGY
ENERGY
The countries hydrocarbon resources consist essentially of gas, known in the deposits of the Afghan part of Karakum and Afghan-Tajik petroliferous basins and in the Tirpul, Helmend, and Kandahar Urzgan basins. The main are the Khoja Gogerdak and Djarkuduk, Yatimtak gas fields, and the Kashkari Oilfields.
Approximately half of the energy used in Afghanistan comes from firewood. Most of the rest comes from gas, oil, and hydroelectricity. There are dams and hydroelectric stations on the Kondoz, Kabul, Arghandab, and Helmand rivers.
